What is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves applying a tooth-coloured composite resin material to teeth to enhance their appearance. At Archway Dental, this material is made up of a combination of plastic and glass, giving it an incredibly natural and translucent look that blends seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Composite bonding can be used to address a variety of dental issues, including:

  • Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Stained or discoloured teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  •  Small or uneven teeth

How Does Composite Bonding Work?

Composite bonding is a non-invasive dental procedure that typically requires only one visit once you have been assessed for treatment by a member of our dental team.

Step 1: Consultation

Our clinician will first examine your teeth and discuss your desired outcome to determine if composite bonding is the right option for you. During this time, they will also discuss the cost of your treatment and answer any questions you may have.

Step 2: Preparation

Once you’ve decided to move forward with composite bonding, we will prepare your teeth by cleaning and roughening the surface to allow for better adhesion of the composite resin material. We may also need to remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth’s surface to make room for the composite resin.

Step 3: Bonding

Next, your clinician will apply the composite resin material to your teeth and mould it into the desired shape. They will then use a special bluelight to harden the material, which typically takes less than a minute. After hardening, your dentist will shape and polish the material to ensure a natural and seamless appearance. It’s that simple.

Step 4: Final Touches

Once the composite resin material is shaped and polished, we will make any final touches to ensure it blends seamlessly and beautifully with your natural teeth. They will also check your bite and ensure that the material is properly aligned with your other teeth.

What are the advantages of Composite Bonding

There are several distinct benefits to choosing composite bonding over other cosmetic dental procedures. Time, cost and accessibility!

  1. Aesthetics

Composite bonding can enhance the appearance of your teeth by addressing various dental issues, including chipped, cracked, stained, or misshapen teeth. The tooth-coloured composite resin material also blends seamlessly with your natural teeth, giving you a natural and beautiful smile.

  1. Durability

Composite bonding is a durable and long-lasting cosmetic dental procedure that lasts several years with proper care. While the material is not as strong as your natural teeth, it can withstand normal wear and tear and is less likely to break or chip than other cosmetic dental procedures.

  1. Affordability

Composite bonding is a cost-effective alternative to other cosmetic dental procedures, such as porcelain veneers or crowns. This is because it requires less preparation and is a non-invasive procedure, making it less expensive than other procedures that require more time and materials.
